Poker History

The first cards games have probably been played in China in the 13th century. Egypt played with cards of ivory in the beginning of the 14th century. And not much later cardgames came to europe too.
One of the first ancastor of the todays poker was the persian game "As Nas". In this game, there has already been a hierachy of hands.
The todays poker is a result of many different games from all over the world with a development of hundres of years.

ancastor cardgames are:
- the spanish "Primero"
- the french "Poque"
- the german "Poch"
These names come from the english word "to poke". From these names
comes the name "Poker".

The next part of the poker history:
Around 1829, french immegrants brought the game to New Orleans in the united states. At this time they played the game with 20 cards. The spreading of the game over the complete east mainly came by the Mississippi steamships.
In the 19th century, while the gold ruch, the game faned out over the west too.
When the game was played in the complete USA, 52 cards decks where used and the "Flush" was added.

The first Stud and Draw games where probably played in the American Civil War between 1861 and 1865. At this time, they added the todays "straight" as new card combination.

The first form of the modern texas hold'em has been played around 1920 called "Wild Widow". The new thing about this kind of poker was a comunity card. A card that belongs to everybody.
